Formula 1-branded LG mobile phone – to be or not to be?

How can one interpret the collaborations between all sorts of companies, more or less known on the market, collaborations that you wouldn’t have expected and take everyone by surprise? The skeptics would say that this is the perfect way for unknown brands to enter the spotlights. Others, on the other hand, would consider the idea in a very pragmatic way, conscious about the fact that when two companies join together they can easily make people aware of their existence.

LG, for example, the South Korean company, loves teaming up with other brands. The LG Prada II is still on the peak of the iceberg, since the device has just been released to the large public. The company is already rumored to collaborate with another huge brand, Formula 1. This might easily turn into the biggest partnership of LG in the past couple of years.

The news has not been confirmed by the company, but during a conference press, LG’s chief marketing officer, Dermot Boden said that they are “looking to develop products in the future with Formula 1”. There weren’t any other comments concerning these products, so we can’t be sure what this guy was talking about, a F1 phone or a new range of consumer electronics. However, LG has become a Global Partner and a Technology Partner of Formula 1. Therefore, starting next year, as a result of this collaboration, the South Korean manufacturer will be granted “exclusive designations and marketing rights as the official Consumer Electronics, Mobile Phone and Data Processor of Formula 1”.

So there are chances for us to get our hands on a F1-branded LG mobile phone sometime in the future. The only thing we should hope for is that the two companies will dare to create a brand new device, from scratch, and that we won’t get to see a reconditioned old model.
